CJSR
Watch this Sound: The Story of CJSR (1946–2004)
For 20 years, CJSR has been Edmonton's independent and alternative radio station, bringing style and substance to a medium that has become increasingly commodified and monotonous. Long before anyone had coined the phrase "alternative music", CJSR was bringing it to Edmonton's airwaves. While other radio stations are motivated by money, CJSR finds its inspiration from a genuine love of music, the community, and telling the proverbial other side of the story. As CJSR celebrates 20 years as an FM station in 2004, it's important to realize that the station's history goes far beyond that. CJSR can trace its roots back to more than 60 years ago.

CJSR's programming is a diverse mixture of news, current affairs, and—of course—music. Since broadcasting its first minute of music to the general public on January 7, 1984, CJSR's programming offered an alternative to mainstream radio. CJSR features the most eclectic selection of music on Edmonton's airwaves: folk, jazz, blues, rock, reggae, hip-hop, techno, classical, ethnic, gospel, and everything in between. CJSR's programming focuses on issues that are either ignored or marginalized by mainstream media. CJSR also broadcasts University of Alberta Pandas and Golden Bears sports.
CJSR is a place where people of any age can receive "hands-on" experience in radio broadcasting. There are volunteer opportunities ranging from board members to DJs and on-air hosts, technicians, engineers, and promoters and organizers of CJSR events. Most come to CJSR to learn to express themselves, to contribute special talents and energies in an atmosphere where opportunities for innovation and creativity abound.
