An ounce of prevention is worth millions of dollars
Dr Sirish Shah, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials engineering, and Matrikon Inc. have each been awarded a 2003 Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Synergy Award for Innovation. Shah and Matrikon have produced new, leading-edge industrial monitoring software that can predict and give warnings of impending system breakdowns.

The Synergy Awards for Innovation were founded in 1995 to recognize partnerships in research and development between universities and industry.
